Downers Grove, IL — January 29, 2026 — A 19-year-old suburban Chicago man has been charged in a brutal killing that left a pregnant mother dead and her home set on fire after what was supposed to be a routine Facebook Marketplace meetup.
Authorities say Nedas Revuckas, 19, of Westmont, Illinois, is facing a slate of serious felony charges including first-degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson, and animal cruelty in connection with the slaying of 30-year-old Eliza Morales.
What Happened
The incident began earlier in the week when Revuckas responded to a Facebook Marketplace listing placed by Morales’s husband seeking to sell a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Investigators say Revuckas initially picked up the truck — which still had the Morales family’s license plates — and then arranged to return the plates and complete paperwork at their Downers Grove apartment.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Revuckas meeting with Morales as she handed him a tool before he entered the building. Moments later, there was evidence of a struggle inside her unit.
Tragic Outcome
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Morales dead inside her apartment amid a fire she did not start. An autopsy later revealed she had been stabbed about 70 times. Morales was approximately five months pregnant at the time.
In addition to the violence against Morales, police say Revuckas attacked the family’s elderly dog. The dog was stabbed and injured but managed to escape during the fire and is reported to be receiving veterinary care.
The couple’s two-year-old child was not at home during the attack and was not harmed.
Investigation and Arrest
Police located Revuckas late Monday night at his home. A search reportedly uncovered bloodstained clothing and evidence linked to the crime. In interviews with detectives, Revuckas is said to have admitted to elements of the attack and to starting the fire using items from within the apartment.

Prosecutors allege the violence stemmed from Revuckas’s dispute over the condition of the vehicle he purchased, although formal motive details have not been fully released.
Community Impact
Neighbors and family members have expressed shock and grief over the loss. Morales is remembered by loved ones as a devoted mother and caring member of her community.
Revuckas is currently held without bond and is expected to appear in court for further proceedings in the coming days.
